Structure

This workshop addresses the Swedish innovation system and important steps in the innovation journey of your research. Early understanding of entrepreneurial principles as well as how to package an idea based on NABC (need, approach, benefit, competition) is beneficial when pitching for different target groups.

  • Understanding the different stakeholders in the Swedish innovation system and what support is available.
  • Understanding the importance of protecting your idea, while performing research and publishing results.
  • Applying the knowledge of NABC, when pitching your research or solution proposal to fellow post docs and review panel.

The Innovation Ecosystem

Lars Svensson, Ph.D., Innovation Developer, LU Innovation and Ali Moshfegh Associate professor​ and Senior innovation advisor at LiU Innovation gave a lecture covering the following areas:

  • Professor’s privilege
  • Publication and patent
  • Impact and valorisation
  • Swedish innovation support ecosystem
  • The Swedish Principle of Public Access

Pitching, NABC, stakeholders

Patrik Blomquist, PhD, RTTP, Business advisor, KI Innovations and Frida Henningsson Johnson, PhD, Business Advisor, UU Innovation introduced the following topics:

  • NABC description
  • Target groups, stakeholders (Research funding bodies, Investor, Industry, Academic Board…)

Pitching practice

The pitching exercise is outlined in the slides given on the NABC model. Example pitches were given by the Innovation experts Patrik Blomquist, Business Advisor and Elin Almstedt, Navigare Ventures, Principal Life Science.

One hour was alloted for participants to fill out the NABC framework, decide on their target audience, and create a one minute pitch to present to the larger group.

Lastly, all participants delivered their individual 1 minute pitches and received feedback from the innovation coaches on how well it followed the pitching structure as well as areas of particular success or improvement.
