Train the Trainer

Design, develop and deliver training based on research-driven educational principles.

Abstract

The SciLifeLab Training Hub, together with ELIXIR-STEERS, ELIXIR Sweden and PHENET, offers a spring iteration of Train the Trainer. This course offers guidance, ideas and tips for designing, developing and delivering training, all based on research-driven educational principles. It covers learning principles and how they apply to training and teaching; designing and planning sessions, courses and materials; teaching techniques that enhance learner engagement and participation; assessment and feedback; and creating and maintaining engagement. The course is highly interactive, so it is important that you, as a participant, actively contribute to all sessions.

Learning outcomes

After completing this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Name learning principles that a good teacher or instructor should have in mind
  2. Describe at least three training techniques, drawing on learning principles
  3. Design a training session and a course
  4. Develop assessment questionnaires
  5. Enumerate types of materials needed for each part of a training session or course
  6. Describe strategies to promote engagement amongst learners

Anyone who is interested in becoming a trainer or instructor, or in improving their training skills.
